Preschool
Pinconning Area Schools has an all day, two days-a-week
program for 4 year olds that is funded through the Michigan School Readiness
Program of the Department of Education.
Students must be four years old by Dec. 1 of the year
the child is entering preschool. Students attend school Monday and Wednesday
or Tuesday and Thursday and are in a classroom with no more than 15 students.
Breakfast and lunch are available daily as is an afternoon
snack. Bus transportation home or to day care is provided by the school
district.
Monthly field trips and Family Focus meetings allow
parents to spend special time with their four year olds while meeting
other parents in the community. Volunteering the classroom is also encouraged.
In anticipation of the newly created "Early Childhood
Standards of Quality for Pre-kindergarten", both classrooms meet
the state standards in curriculum, facilities, and approaches to learning.
The programs are fully licensed through the state of Michigan.
Students are involved in a variety of activity centers
that help children develop as emerging language users and become more
competent as listeners, speakers, readers, writers and viewers. Problem
solving is the central focus of the mathematics curriculum as children
work with their environment to build, modify, and integrate simple mathematical
concepts. Outdoor time provides time to build large muscle strength and
is a regular part of the day when weather permits.
Melissa Hilliard and Heather Dorian are the classroom
teachers and Brenda Publow and Marianne Mondeau are the classroom parapros.
Melissa and Heather each have State of Michigan Certification with an
endorsement in early childhood education. Brenda and Lois each hold a
CDA and years of experience in early childhood programs.
