and Federal Grant Programs
Listed below is a description of state and federal programs that bring
resources into Pinconning Area Schools:
Section 31a
Program Contact: Mike Vieau
Section 31a provides supplementary instructional and pupil support services
for pupils who meet at-risk criteria specified in the legislation. The
criteria include low achievement on MEAP or the presence of two or more
identified at-risk factors. Funds may also be used for class size reductions
in grades 1 - 6 in schools above the district's poverty percentage.
Title I, Part A
Program Contact: Mike Vieau
This program is designed to help disadvantaged children who are failing,
or most at risk of failing, to meet the district's core academic curriculum
standards. Instruction is supplementary and delivered as schoolwide projects.
Staff development activities and parent involvement activities are provided.
District and school plans are coordinated with other local, state, and
federal programs. Staff and parents are involved in the development of
district and school improvement plans.
Title II A
Program Contact: Mike Vieau
Title II A provides a focus on recruiting, training, and retaining highly
qualified staff, as well as recruiting and hiring supplementary staff.
Funds may be used to reduce class size, particularly in the early grades.
The program coordinates with district needs regarding class size, professional
development, and the recruiting, hiring, and retaining of highly qualified
staff. Parent involvement is part of Title II A.
Title II D, Subpart 1
Program Contact: Darren Kroczaleski
This program focuses on technology as a support to student academic achievement.
A percentage of funds must be used for staff development.
Title V
Program Contact: Mike Vieau
Title V is designed for innovative programs. All districts in the Bay-Arenac
Intermediate School District collectively determine area needs.
Section 57.3: Gifted and Talented Funds
Program Contact: Mike Vieau
This program provides funding for gifted and talented students, such
as Advanced Placement, Odyssey of the Mind, Science Olympiad, Math Olympics,
cultural events, and library enrichment materials.
CSRD - Central Elementary
Program Contact:
Comprehensive School Reform Development is being used at the Middle School
for professional development activities to assist teachers in helping
students develop the skills to master the state standards and benchmarks.
Career Preparation System
Program Contact: Salle O'Neill
Career Prep is a state-level grant that provides students opportunities
to explore a variety of careers throughout their K-12 education and beyond,
including integrated instruction that emphasizes the application of academics
to the world of work. Major components of Career Prep include career pathways,
comprehensive guidance and counseling, assisting students with an educational
development plan, and providing contextual or authentic learning.
Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2

This program allows small rural communities assistance in needed areas.
