Pinconning Area Schools has an all day, four days-a-week program for 4 year olds that is funded through the Great Start Readiness Program of the Department of Education. We currently have classrooms at the Pinconning Advancement Academy and Linwood Elementary.
Students must be four years old by September 1st of the year the child is entering preschool. Students can also be enrolled if their birthday falls between September 1st and December 1st but that possibly would require the student to attend two years of preschool. Students attend school Monday thru Thursday and are in a classroom with no more than 16 students.
Breakfast and lunch are available daily as is an afternoon snack. Bus transportation home or to day care is provided by the school district.
Field trips and Family Focus meetings allow parents to spend special time with their four year olds while meeting other parents in the community. Volunteering in the classroom is also encouraged. We also have 2 Home Visits and 2 Parent/Teacher Conferences that are required.
In anticipation of the newly created "Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-kindergarten", all classrooms meet the state standards in curriculum, facilities, and approaches to learning. The programs are fully licensed through the State of Michigan.
Students are involved in a variety of activity centers that help children develop as emerging language users and become more competent as listeners, speakers, readers, writers and viewers. Problem solving is the central focus of the mathematics curriculum as children work with their environment to build, modify, and integrate simple mathematical concepts. Outdoor time provides time to build large muscle strength and is a regular part of the day when weather permits.
Laurie Badgerow, Shawna Paulik and Gina Morin are the classroom teachers and Brenda Publow, Marianne Mondeau and Adrienne O'Laughlin are the classroom parapros. Shawna, Gina and Laurie each have State of Michigan Certification with an endorsement in early childhood education. Brenda, Marianne and Adrienne each hold a CDA and years of experience in early childhood programs.
